Sir,
With reference to my despatch Mo.12 of September 10
last I have the honour to transmit herewith the copy of a
despatch, with enclosures, from the Officer Administering
the Goverment of Mongkong, calling attention to the detri-
mental effect which the temporary recumption by the Canton
Kint of the coinage of 20 cent places is likely to have
on the financial situation in the Colony.
In view of the fact that the Thinese Government are
seriously considering the question of currency reform
Mr.Max Miller did not think the moment opportune for again
approaching them on the subject of Fonekong's long-standingy
grievance with regard to the depreciated subsidiary ocinaqi
of the Muangtung Province. The Canton Government are mulet
more concerned with the relations between the 20 and 10
(and the copper cents,
cent pieces and cach than they are with the relations hat
Sight Honourable,
Sir Edward Grey, Part., M.P.
